Early childcare providers have long battled to support families against all odds. In 2020, our research with Webb, revealed how Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) practitioners regularly worked unpaid hours and bought resources out of their own pockets to provide essential services for families. Many of these dedicated professionals even took on additional jobs to sustain their passion while managing their bills.

Sadly, the situation has only worsened. After enduring the chaos of the pandemic without the pay or recognition their teacher counterparts received, ECEC practitioners reached an all-time low. This presentation, based on research with Stobbs, amplifies the voices of ECEC practitioners during that challenging time and examines the untenable direction for ECEC.
